Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
This policy covers the This is my Wedding website, the My Wedding mobile app (iOS and Android), and the couple dashboard. It explains what data we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It applies to couples, wedding guests and website visitors.
Who we are
This is my Wedding is the data controller for enquiries, couple accounts and website visitors. For information guests submit inside a wedding (RSVPs, food choices, messages, photos), the couple whose wedding it is acts as the data controller and we process that data on their behalf. Questions about anything in this policy: [email protected].
The data we collect, how we use it, and how long we keep it
We only collect what the service needs to work. Here's every category:
Enquiries — website visitors
| Data | Your name, partner's name, email address, wedding date, venue, guest count, how you heard about us, and your message. |
|---|---|
| Used for | Replying to your enquiry and setting up your wedding app if you go ahead. |
| Kept for | Up to 24 months after our last contact, or longer if you become a customer. |
Couple accounts — dashboard & app
| Data | Email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), and the wedding content you create — names, dates, venues, schedule, menus, gift registry, photos and your chosen wording and theme. |
|---|---|
| Used for | Running your wedding app, letting you manage it, and sending your guests' announcements. |
| Kept for | While your wedding is active and for up to 12 months after your wedding date — or deleted sooner on request. You can delete content at any time in your dashboard. |
Guest data — inside the app
| Data | Names you enter (your own and your party members'), party size, adult/child flags, meal choices, dietary requirements, drink preferences, event attendance, RSVP notes, messages you send, and photos you upload. |
|---|---|
| Used for | Showing your RSVP and choices to the couple whose wedding you're attending, so they can plan catering, seating and the day itself. |
| Kept for | While the wedding is active — it belongs to the couple's wedding and is removed when the wedding is deleted, or earlier if the couple deletes it or you ask them to. |
Dietary requirements can reveal health information. You only ever provide this voluntarily, and it's used solely so the couple can cater for you. To exercise your rights over guest data, contact the couple directly — or email us and we'll help.
Device & push notification data
| Data | An Expo push token and device platform (iOS/Android), registered only if you allow notifications. |
|---|---|
| Used for | Delivering the couple's announcements to your phone. That's it — no analytics, no advertising, no tracking. |
| Kept for | Until the wedding is deleted or the token stops working — expired tokens are pruned automatically. |
Technical & security data
| Data | Standard server logs — IP address, browser/device, timestamps, pages requested. |
|---|---|
| Used for | Keeping the service secure, preventing abuse (rate limiting), and debugging problems. |
| Kept for | Up to 30 days. |
Who we share it with
We never sell personal data. The only third parties involved are the service providers needed to run the product:
- Hosting — our servers run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (UK region).
- Cloudflare — provides DNS and security for our domains; it sees standard web traffic data.
- Push notifications — Expo's push service delivers announcements via Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Email — enquiry notifications and confirmations are sent through our transactional email provider.
- App stores — Apple and Google distribute the app itself; your store account is governed by their own policies.
Our legal bases
We process enquiry and account data to provide the service you've asked for (contract), and keep minimal security logs under our legitimate interest in running a safe service. Guest data is processed on the couple's instructions; dietary information is provided voluntarily by guests who choose to share it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, restrict or object to how it's used, and withdraw consent where consent applies. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. Guests can also ask their couple to edit or delete their RSVP and photos directly from the couple's dashboard. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you're unhappy with how we've handled things.
Children
Children may be named in a party's RSVP by the adult managing it — we don't collect data from children directly, and the app isn't intended for use by children under 13.
Cookies & on-device storage
This website uses no tracking or advertising cookies — only a session cookie for the site admin area. The app stores your guest code and name on your device so you stay unlocked; clearing app data removes them.
Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored as secure hashes, each wedding's data is isolated from every other wedding, and uploads are validated. No system is perfectly secure, but we design for data minimisation — we simply don't collect what we don't need.
International transfers
Our servers are in the UK. Some processors (Cloudflare, Expo, Apple, Google) may process data outside the UK — where that happens it's covered by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date above. Significant changes will be flagged to couples by email or in the dashboard.
